01 – Initial Consultation
During your comprehensive consultation appointment, Dr. Thiara will carefully assess your skin, explain how BBL can address your specific concerns, and discuss any concerns or questions you have so you can get aligned on expectations.
You’ll receive detailed pre-treatment instructions, including avoiding sun exposure for two weeks before your appointment and discontinuing certain skincare products like retinoids.
02 – Treatment Day
Arrive with clean skin free of makeup, lotions and sunscreen. We’ll cleanse your treatment areas thoroughly and provide protective eyewear to shield your eyes from the bright light flashes.
During treatment, you’ll feel a warm, snapping sensation as the BBL handpiece glides across your skin. Most patients describe this as tolerable, comparing it to a light rubber band snap followed by warmth. The integrated cooling system keeps your skin comfortable throughout the session.
A typical full-face treatment takes 30 to 45 minutes, though smaller areas require less time. You can listen to music or simply relax during your session. There’s no need for numbing cream, as most patients find the treatment quite comfortable.
03 – Immediate Post-Treatment
Right after your BBL session, your skin will appear pink or slightly red, similar to a mild sunburn. This is completely normal and typically subsides within a few hours. Treated pigmented spots may appear darker immediately, which is a positive sign that the treatment is working.
You’ll be briefed with clear and specific aftercare instructions to help you safeguard your results. Most patients return directly to work or normal activities, though you may prefer to schedule your first treatment before a weekend to allow any initial redness to resolve.
04 – Days 1-7 Post-Treatment
During the first week, you’ll notice treated brown spots darkening and rising to the skin surface. This “peppering” or “coffee ground” appearance is a sign that the pigmentation is being cleared from the skin. Don’t pick at these spots, as they’ll naturally flake off over one to two weeks.
Any post-treatment redness you might experience typically resolves within one to two days. Some patients experience mild swelling that subsides quickly. Continue using gentle, hydrating skincare products and apply broad-spectrum sunscreen diligently.
05 – Weeks 2-4 (Revealing Phase)
As the treated pigmentation sheds, you’ll see clearer, more even-toned skin emerging. Vascular lesions and redness gradually fade as the treated blood vessels collapse and are reabsorbed by your body.
The collagen-stimulating effects continue working beneath the surface, improving your skin’s texture and tone. Many patients notice their skin looks brighter, smoother and more radiant during this phase.
06 – Maintenance & Long-Term Results
To achieve optimal results, most patients complete a series of three to five treatments spaced three to four weeks apart. Each session builds upon the previous one, delivering cumulative improvements.
After your initial series, we recommend maintenance treatments every six to twelve months to preserve your results and continue reversing the aging process at the genetic level. Many of our patients make BBL part of their annual skincare routine, scheduling treatments in the fall or winter when sun exposure is minimal.
